J. Willis Ambrose Medal – Brian Jones
CitationThe Geological Association of Canada represents a large group of researchers focused on Canadian and international Earth science. The voice to the world of GAC is the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences. Professor Brian Jones served the GAC as editor of this flagship publication during a critical period in its history. Throughout his ten years at the helm, he instituted the editing structure that we have today, reformatted and modernized CJES, and critically brought the journal into the electronic age. From 1998 to 2007 he reviewed more than 1500 published papers from authors worldwide, oversaw numerous special issues, especially those complex and landmark issues devoted to Lithoprobe, and widened the scope of science that now appears in the journal. All authors refer to his rapid attention after submission, equitable treatment of papers and discussions, and above all his caring attitude. His unstinting service to GAC and Canadian geoscience over this time assured that the scientific voice of GAC was always of the highest caliber. His dedication and guidance have resulted in CJES becoming one of the top-ranked Earth science journals in the world today. Professor Jones is more than worthy of the Ambrose Medal. He deserves this significant recognition and our continuing thanks for his dedication to the Earth science community of this country.
