CBU invites applications for an eight-month limited term appointment in Geology at the lab instructor level in the broad field of hydrogeology/geology commencing September 6, 2010, subject to budgetary approval.

Applicants should have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Geology or related science field, plus demonstrated competence in teaching of Geology. Preference will be given to those with industrial and teaching experience in laboratory Geology.
The position would involve preparing/delivering laboratories during the fall and winter semesters in such areas as introductory geology principles, physical geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, petroleum drilling and reservoir.

This position requires a professional engineer, registered in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining, or a related discipline, combined with a minimum of two years experience in surface mining operations. Knowledge of geostatistics and truck dispatch systems including the ability to use Microsoft Office and AutoCad products is essential for success in this position. The Mine Engineer will also have strong communication skills and a proven ability to work with Maptek Vulcan planning systems, drill and blast operations and mine dewatering systems.

Lorsque nécessaire, vous effectuerez et évaluerez les appels d'offres pour les diagraphies, les études géologiques et géophysiques ainsi que pour les diverses analyses géochimiques.

Data from across the disciplines of Ocean and Earth science are streaming live from the Northeast Pacific, and these data are freely and openly available to the world through the Internet. They are provided by the NEPTUNE Canada regional cabled ocean observatory which spans the northern Juan de Fuca Plate from the shelf to the deep sea (17-2700m). Real-time continuous monitoring, archiving, and long time series allow scientists to capture the temporal nature, characteristics, and linkages of these natural processes in ways never before possible. Positions Description
NEPTUNE Canada has five openings for individuals to help with the five broad research themes that encompass the breadth of research on the observatory:
The experiments and instrumentation selected to address the research themes above span physical, chemical, biological and geological processes and events. In order to ensure that there is truly multidisciplinary use of the instruments and data and that the different experiments at each site are seen as complementary and integrated where possible, NEPTUNE Canada has created a Research Theme Integrator position for each theme. As a team the Research Theme Integrators will coordinate the interactions within each research theme and across the network. They will act as catalysts to drive and integrate advances in interdisciplinary science, IT capability, and multivariate earth-ocean informatics required to analyse the complex data matrices produced from NEPTUNE Canada instruments and sensors.
The preferred candidates for these positions will be research scientists from the disciplines of earth and ocean sciences with a strong quantitative background. The successful candidates will have a PhD in Science or equivalent qualifications and related experience. Essential qualifications include excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills as well as a strong scientific and quantitative background.

Nyrstar is a leading global multi-metals business, producing significant quantities of zinc and lead as well as other products (including silver, gold, and copper).
Nyrstar's operations in Tennessee are comprised of the Clarksville smelter, a medium-scale plant with a capacity of approximately 125,000 tonnes of zinc per year, and six separate mines. The Young, Immel and Coy mines are part of the East Tennessee complex and are located near Knoxville, Tennessee within 20 miles of each other and 250 miles east of the smelter. The Elmwood, Gordonsville and Cumberland mines are part of the Gordonsville complex and are located near Nashville, Tennessee within approximately 10 miles of each other and 100 miles east of the smelter.
At full production the Nyrstar Tennessee Mines are capable of providing more than 210,000 dry metric tonnes (dmt) of zinc concentrate at a grade of approximately 62% which exceeds 100% of the concentrate requirements for the Clarksville smelter.
POSITION SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, the Chief Geologist is responsible for providing technical leadership for all geological functions at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mines including exploration, ore accounting, and resource definition, estimation and reporting across the Gordonsville and East Tennessee complexes.

The Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in one of two disciplines: Structural Geology / Tectonics, particularly candidates who combine field studies and quantitative analysis in their research; or Igneous Petrology, particularly those candidates who base their research on field studies combined with computational modeling of physical/chemical processes. The preferred start date of the position is 3 January 2011. A PhD is required at the time of appointment and post-doctoral experience is desirable. The potential for collaborations with other earth scientists exists within the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre, which incorporates the expertise of geoscientists at University of Ottawa, Carleton University and the Geological Survey of Canada. The department was recently awarded CFI funding for an accelerator mass spectrometer together with new petrochemical facilities including an electron microprobe, SEM, LAICPMS, and noble gas mass spectrometer, which the successful candidate would be encouraged to use. The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching; he/she will be expected to supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in his or her field of research.
