PRIVACY POLICY
The Geological Association of Canada (GAC®) is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of its membership, the customers placing orders by mail or through its website, nominees for awards and donors to the Funds set up by the GAC®. We do not sell our mailing list to any third party. Our employees are well informed so that your personal information is kept private. If you have provided your email address, GAC® Headquarters will make any necessary contact with you in this manner under most circumstances. If you would prefer not to be contacted via email, please advise Headquarters so that we can remove your email address from the database.
Information received by hard copy
Personal information provided to GAC® through application of membership is kept confidential by the Association. It is used only to distribute journals, newsletters and other GAC® membership materials, or for internal purposes. For those members who have purchased a membership in one or more of GAC®'s Divisions and Sections, or purchased a subscription through your membership to outside journals, your contact information will be forwarded to those groups for distribution purposes of their newsletters and journals respectively.
Information collected from those customers who have placed orders, will only be used to fulfill the order, and if permission is granted, to make contact with marketing information.
Information received via website
GAC® does not track movement of visitors to the website. GAC® may provide links to external websites, however it does not control or endorse these sites and is not responsible for their availability, content, privacy practices, or delivery of services.
Credit Card information and the web
GAC® online does not collect credit card information. GAC® has gone through great lengths to ensure the privacy of your credit card information via the web. The Association has contracted a credit card verification company to receive your credit card information and to either accept or reject your transaction. The only information that our office receives is the approval, the dollar value of the transaction, and information assisting us in matching your transaction with your order.
Membership Directory
GAC® produces a Membership Directory that is posted online for members' only, and is printed for those members who wish to purchase it for their personal non-commercial use. It is not sold to anyone outside of the membership. It contains your name, address, telephone number, facsimile and email address. If you wish to have any part of your contact information removed from the Directory, please advise GAC® Headquarters at gac@esd.mun.ca or by calling (709) 737-7660.
You can help us keep your membership contact information current by logging on at http://gac4.esd.mun.ca/gac/gac.php and making any necessary changes.
Medals and other awards
The original documents (including personal contact information, letters of support, citations and related submitted information) and all copies of these documents will be destroyed after each individual nominee either wins an award or is no longer a nominee. Only information approved for publication and promotion will be retained, and release of all such information will be pre-approved by the winner.
