GCRS 8: Proud Heritage
Edited by R.W. Macqueen.
Canada’s history benefits greatly from the major contributions made by early geologists and geological observers – those who bore witness to its geography and landscape, geological and botanical resources, climate, and aboriginal peoples. This volume features some of these early geologists and geological observers, and serves to remind the present generation of an earlier generation of geologists, many now almost forgotten. This volume also provides an accessible resource for those who wish to learn more about these geologists and their work. The accomplishments of these early workers are astounding, given Canada's vast geography, the difficulties of early travel by foot, canoe, or horse, the comparatively primitive means of surveying, and the fact that so much of the country was pristine and unsettled wilderness.
