The Canadian Sedimentology Research Group is the division of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC) devoted to sedimentary geology. Encompassing carbonate and clastic sedimentologists, stratigraphers, petroleum geologists, and all others with interest in sedimentary deposits, CSRG exists to encourage the pursuit of all aspects of this vibrant geological discipline.

CSRG’s Middleton Medal in Sedimentology is awarded biannually by the Canadian Sedimentology Research Group. The medal is named in honour of Gerard V. Middleton, a Canadian pioneer in academic sedimentology, and recognises either an outstanding long-term contribution or a seminal contribution to any aspect of sedimentology by a Canadian or a sedimentology researcher working in Canada. Criteria and nomination procedures are posted on GAC’s website.  The Middleton Medal is awarded at the GAC annual meeting in even-numbered years. Nominations are welcome until December 31 of the preceding calendar year.

CSRG is active in sponsoring Technical Sessions, Symposia, Field Trips and student presentation awards at conferences. We offer financial support to graduate students taking part in sedimentology-related GAC field trips. We are also open to supporting student-organised meetings. Suggestions for new activities are always welcome.
